Title: Negros Hornbill

Year:2019

Media: Dye on Silk, Pigment

Dimension: 250 x 100 cm

Silk and silk fabrics used to be Japan's main industry, but nowadays it is very difficult to obtain hand-woven white silk fabrics in Japan. I heard from a friend that a Japanese craftsman was teaching the people of Negros Island how to hand-weave silk fabrics, so I got the silk blank fabrics from there.

I selected Negros Hornbill as a motif and dyed on the fabric.

I hope that the people of Negros Island will pass on the techniques of silk weaving and protect this precious bird. I myself started learning silk weaving in Kyoto. I would like to make use of that technique in my artwork.
